As the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry revealed recently, the country’s watch exports fell 25.9 percent in July compared to the last month. But this still mark a little improvement compared with the monthly figure for June, which showed a fall of 31.9 percent.

Import from two of the country’s biggest markets, Hong Kong and United States, continues to drop by 31.7 percent and 39.2 percent in July respectively, while in June the figures were 49.2 percent and 35.9 percent.

Although the new statistics show a little improvement on a month-on-month basis, it’s obvious that the Swiss watch export is still under the falling inertia. It may still take a long time for the Swiss watch industry to recover.

Since most of the Swiss watches go for the high-end marketing strategy, and luxury watches are not necessity items, they are highly sensitive to such glooming economic atmosphere. Maybe you can find some rare exceptions that still keep their sales unaffected or even booming, but the overall situation is that most of the luxury brands suffer a big decline in sales.
